PRESS RELEASE

Read the Review on Artforum.com by Tina Rivers.

Windows showcases seven artists born around 1980 who had early experiences of beauty and art making in the digital realm, whether playing video games or using computer software programs like Microsoft Paint and CorelDraw to begin to explore art making . For these artists, digital spaces and tools still inform their painting practice in significant ways. The title of the exhibition refers to the window as a framing device, a boundary between a space which is occupied by a viewer from a space which is viewed, and the Windows operating system, first released nearly thirty years ago around the same time when these artists were born. The window has a long history of representation and signification in Western Art , but the impact of Windows the operating system and related early technologies on artists working in a non-digital medium has been little explored.
